Jazz in June

General Information

Great Tradition

Organized by the Sheldon Art Association, the Berman Music Foundation, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music, and this year presented by Baylor Evnen, Jazz in June is a beloved downtown Lincoln summertime tradition. Jazz in June's roots go back 18 years, when SAA created the event to showcase the Philip Johnson's beautiful Sheldon Museum of Art and its surrounding sculpture garden.

Come early for the best locations on the lawn west of Sheldon and bring blankets or lawn chairs for your comfort. The music starts at 7 p.m. Jazz in June performances are free to all, but concertgoers are asked to make a minimum donation of $10 per family to continue the series.

With this year's theme, Going Green, organizers stress the benefits of an increased environmental consciousness. Through the reduction of plastic bottles at this year's concerts and a more intense recycling waste effort, Jazz in June hopes to set a green example for public gatherings in Nebraska.

We encourage concertgoers to support Jazz in June and Sheldon by joining the SAA, the Museum's dedicated support group. Your membership supports events, programs and exhibitions. Learn more about the museum, volunteer for various events and programs, and help raise money for this community gem.

Soft drinks, iced tea, and cookies will be for sale at each concert. Sheldon Art Association volunteers also will be selling Jazz in June T-shirts and CDs by each week's band.

Jazz in June is also a great opportunity for volunteers who would like to be involved in a community event. To volunteer, please contact Laurie Sipple at 472-1170.
