Jazz in June

Tours of the University of Nebraska Lincoln Gardens

Join the Jazz in June garden tours at 6 p.m. on the east side of Sheldon Museum of Art. The tours, which take about 30 minutes, are free and informative.

June 2

Amy Alderman (UNL Landscape Services Landscape Assistant) & Eileen Bergt (UNL Landscape Services Director and Campus Landscape Architect)

Eileen Bergt and Amy Alderman will give a tour and scavenger hunt of Love Garden, the large perennial display gardens at the entrance to City Campus. They will discuss plants that are in bloom at this time along with their uses. The tour and scavenger hunt will be for the children and their parents.

June 9

Emily Casper (UNL Landscape Services Landscape Architect)

Emily Casper will give a tour highlighting low maintenance shrubs that have less water requirements and are drought tolerant. These types of plants are great additions to a "green" home landscape.

June 16

Karen Janovy (Sheldon Museum of Art Education Coordinator)

Karen Janovy will give a tour of the Sheldon outdoor Sculpture Garden. Selections from among the 30 pieces available will be highlighted for discussion, depending on the requests from the group in attendance.

Mark J Awakuni-Swetland -UNL Assistant Professor of Anthropology & Ethnic Studies (Native American Studies)

"More than just pretty flowers and noxious weeds" Stroll through the UNL landscape and learn how local plants were used by Native Americans and early Nebraska pioneers for food, fiber, medicine, and more.

Kirby Baird (UNL Landscape Services City Campus Landscape Manager) & Fred Thorne (UNL Landscape Services Irrigation Manager)

Kirby Baird and Fred Thorne will discuss how to be water wise when irrigating your turf. They will also talk about ways to have a sustainable landscape.
